People overshare too much on the internet

I don’t overshare. I’m actually a very private person. I mean sure, I mentioned in passing that my ex left me during a thunderstorm while I was holding a lasagna in one hand and an IKEA Allen key in the other, because we were arguing over which bookshelf best represented our emotional maturity—but that’s not oversharing. That’s setting the scene. And yeah, maybe I told my dentist about the existential crisis I had in the frozen peas aisle last Tuesday when I realized I’d become the kind of person who compares the price-per-kilo on vegetables, but that’s just bonding. You know, connection. Community. Not oversharing. God forbid. It’s not like I walk up to strangers and tell them I once cried during a shampoo commercial because the narrator said “revitalise your roots” and it felt too personal. That would be ridiculous. I’m composed. Stoic, even.

Kids don’t need “gentle parenting” - they need boundaries

I agree with this, but I would say yes, and they need gentle parenting when those boundaries are crossed. Boundaries are important, but so is respect, discussion, allowing them to have boundaries of their own, and showing them love and kindness when they f*ck up, while still maintaining the boundaries and consequences that were set out.

I'm a boomer, and the optimism and confidence I felt for the world in general back in the 70s is gone now. Know things have gone somewhat better for some people since then and definitely better for a lot of people before then, but I feel like now we're all on a downward trend.
